Ed and Barbara Kelly were both born and raised in the Heber Valley, Ed was born at his home in Midway on November 23, 1942. Barbara was born at the Heber City hospital on May 4, 1943.
Ed attended Midway Elementary School and Barbara attended Central Elementary School in Heber.
Ed and Barbara both attended Wasatch High School from 7th grade to 12th grade. The high school was located on Main Street where the current city park is now located. They met during their 8th grade year. They have been sweethearts ever since. They both graduated from Wasatch High School in June 1961.
Ed and Barbara were married on June 19, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Logan that fall where Ed attended Utah State University. He then transferred to Snow College in Ephraim, Utah before returning to Logan where he graduated in 1965 with a degree in education.
After earning his degree, Ed got a job teaching in Tooele. He taught there for a few months before an opening came at Wasatch Junior High and they were able to move back to Heber City to teach. They built their first home in Midway in 1967 where they continue to live. Ed went on to teach Physical Education and Heath as well as coach all sports for 30 years before retiring. Ed never met a student that he didn’t like.
Together Ed and Barbara have three children. Sandy Hamby (Kris) who lives in Richmond, Utah. She is the accounts receivable manager at Smithfield Implement. Shawn Kelly (Alyson) lives in Midway. He has been in Education for twenty -nine years, First as a teacher, then as principal of Midway Elementary and Wasatch High school. He currently works in H/R and Operations for Wasatch School District. Justin Kelly (Jeana) lives in Midway, He has been in Education for Twenty -Three years, first as teacher, then as Principal of Rocky Mountain Middle School and is currently the Principal of Wasatch High School. They have 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to Ed’s career as a teacher, Ed and Barbara along with his brother Brent and wife Mary owned and operated Utah Livestock Auction in Spanish Fork Utah for 28 years.Currently, Ed is working as an auctioneer for Anderson Livestock in Willard Utah and continuing in the Kelly legacy of trading horses.
Ed and Barbara are active members of their church where they have served in many callings and have been very influential in the community.They have spent many hours in the service of others through both their church and the community. They were the founding President and Vice President of Wasatch High School Alumni Association. Serving in the capacity for thirteen years.Barbara has spent countless hours baking goods and rolling out scones for Swiss Days.Ed and Barbara have dedicated many decades working at Swiss Days in all capacities.Because of this self-less service, their family has continued the tradition of serving during Swiss Days.
Ed and Barbara love Midway, the Heber Valley and those that live here. They and their family are deeply honored to be chosen as this year’s Wasatch County Fair Day’s Grand Marshals.
